History 101:

Higdon's, circa 1970s

Brogen's, 2008

Brogen's is filled with Island history. Take a walk inside and see all the old photographs on the walls to prove it. Take a walk upstairs and see one of the island's oldest bars, originally located at Emmiline and Hessies in the 70's it was moved and reassembled at Brogen's in 2006.

The building was originally Higdon's, a local General Store catering to the fisherman and island natives alike. In 1983 Forrest Brown turned Higdon's into Brogens, creating a casual atmosphere for fishermen, locals and tourists to come in and cool off. They opened with two microwaves serving roast beef, turkey and ham sandwiches... and of course, cold beer.

Today's Brogens has evolved quite a bit but still maintains the laid-back, island-casual feel. It's the best place to get a cheeseburger and watch the game. It's great for the whole family, with shuffle-board and video games for the kids. Brogen's is open late, so come out and enjoy the lively night-life this local hangout boasts.

Brogen's has also opened a second location. Brogen's North, located on Frederica Road, towards the north end of the island, offers the same quality food, fun and casual atmosphere as it's sister.
